58% of women in college feel pressured to be a certain size. Furthermore, 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and often diet in attempts to achieve their ideal body sizes. Those statistics are staggering and unnerving to me, so this month’s blog topic is Body Positivity. Body Positivity is the belief that all people should have positive body images of themselves, regardless of how society and culture portrays ideal shapes, sizes, and appearances. People with positive body images love their bodies no matter what they look like, don’t compare themselves to others, stay positive about their weight, and love themselves, regardless of their pant sizes. People with positive mindsets about their body images love themselves and others, no matter their physical appearances. They also say positive affirmations, and encourage self-positivity, self-acceptance, and self-health in themselves and others. Body Positivity is important for a person to have because it takes the focus away from a person’s looks, and identifies them by their strengths and characteristics instead. Moreover, it is important for a person to have a positive self-image of themselves, because body positivity can improve mental health and reduce the risk of eating disorders in people.
Happy April, all! 🙂
