Whenever I start to feel uninspired, confused, frustrated, or stuck in a rut, I know it’s time for me to go back to the drawing board. I know it’s time to have another heart-to-heart talk with my best friend, visit Granny for some comfort (hugs and food), and search for motivation in the world (nature and beauty) around me. Sometimes, I look up motivational quotes and try to draw inspiration from them (I’m a sucker for inspirational quotes, and I collect them). Inevitably, I always end up right back at Barnes and Noble: a place that combines my love of reading and writing with the inspiration I draw from all the writers (their books on the shelves) who dreamt a writer’s dream before I did. Because of them I know that my dream of becoming a successful professional writer can come true with hard work, determination, and persistence. Because of them I know that writers can create their own (different) worlds to escape to when they need to escape temporarily from their lives (reality). The bookstore is one of many places I as a writer can go to escape reality when I don’t feel like writing my way out of a funk or talking about my problems. Besides seeking solace in Granny’s arms, I also frequently find comfort in libraries. Sometimes, certain things and places can inspire and motivate me while other times other things and places encourage me. I never know what I will be moved by to tears or to write. All I know is that when inspiration strikes, I feel reenergized, reinvigorated, renewed. I feel like I can press on another day. I feel like keeping on keeping on. It’s reassuring to know that whenever life’s struggles, trials, and difficulties threaten to knock the life and spirit out of me, I have words and places to revive the fire in me again.
What inspires you? Books, nature, and motivational
quotes do it for me every time!
Happy May! 😊
